554,648. Knitting-machines. HOLMES, H. H., HURD, J. C. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd. May 8, 1942, No. 6265. [Class 74 (ii)] The slides 5 in each cylinder or needle bed of a purl fabric machine are separated from the corresponding needles at a transfer operation by lateral projections 7 provided upon sinkers 6 or other cam-operated members provided between the needles. The projections upon sinkers may be chamfered to provide edges arranged to open the latches of needles positioned in either needle bed as described in Specification 506,837. Cam formations are provided in the sinker cam ring at each transfer position for actuating the sinkers so that the projections 7 press the sliders 5 away from the needle hooks. Alternatively, the projections may be provided upon the sliders so as to engage the sinkers or other cam-operated deflecting members at the transfer position.
