554,910. Knitting-machines. HOLMES, H. H., HURD, J. C. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd., May 8, 1942, No, 6264. Addition tc 506,837. [Class 74 (ii)] The latch-opening devices of the parent Specification are arranged to yield or be displaced to allow the needle hooks to pass behind them so that damage or undue wear of the needles or latch-openers is avoided. The latchopening devices may be provided upon the sinkers or upon sinker-like members, either arranged in the same tricks as the sinkers or in separate tricks. In a machine employing inside sinkers 6 provided with latch-opening projections 8, a movable cam part 17 is aranged to protrude from the top sinker cam ring 11 into the cam track at the latch-opening position and is yieldable against the pressure of a spring 21 to allow the corresponding sinker to move outwards slightly when the projection is engaged by the hook. The spring 21 can be adjusted by a screw 20. Alternatively, the sinkers are moved in futher than is necessary for latch-opening and the appropriate part of the sinker cam is recessed so that the sinker can be moved outwardly by the needle hook.
