Improvements in or relating to knitted fabric and to a method of making the same

Abstract

709,209. Knitting. WILDT & CO.. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1952 [March 8, 1951], No. 5639/51. Class 74 (2) Knitted fabric is knitted on a circular machine in which tuck loops c, d are directly linked with pelerine loops f, g so as to produce raised puckered effects surrounding the eyelets e formed by the pelerine loops. The effect may be made in a plain or rib fabric. As described in connection with a 2x2 rib fabric knitted on a four feeder cylinder and dial machine, tucking occurs in two consecutive courses C; D in the plain wales A whilst the pelerine loops occur in the intervening courses E, F and in the rib wales B. The effect is such that the tuck loops are directly. interlinked with the pelerine loops so as to open out the eyelets e and to cause raised effects around the eyelets. Knitting machines. The cylinder and dial machine for producing the fabric is provided with selector mechanism adapted to effect selection of jacks controlling the needles or pelerine instruments. A selector unit is positioned before alternate feeders; so as to make a two course selection, the needles having long and the pelerine instruments short butts so that tucking and pelerine loop formation will take place as desired. If desired the fabric may be knitted on a links-links machine.
