Abstract

1,083,664. Knitting-machines. WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd. Feb. 2, 1966 [Feb. 6, 1965], No. 5239/65. Heading D1C. In a superposed cylinder machine for producing links-links float jacquard fabric, needles to knit in the bottom cylinder at one feed are selected from a group selected at the previous feed. Tilting selector jacks selected at C, are raised by a cam 18 so that the associated jacks are raised by further cams 15, 16. Sliders 4 are thereby raised to transfer selected needles 3'. which may include some of those transferred from the top cylinder by cam 21, to sliders 5 in the top cylinder. The transfered needles tuck on their latches at stitch cam 19. The remaining needles 3<SP>2</SP> knit in the lower cylinder. Prior to the second feed, selector jacks of needles 3<SP>1</SP> in the top cylinder are raised by cam 24 and the jacks then raised by further cams 25, 26. The sliders are then further raised by cam 27 and engage the needles lowered from the upper cylinder. Selector jacks of needles to be transferred to the upper cylinder, including jacks of any of the needles 3<SP>1</SP> to be re-transferred. are selected at the next selecting station D. The corresponding jacks are then raised by cams 15, 16 so that the sliders rise to present the needles to the upper sliders 5. Transferred needles knit at the upper stitch cam 19. Needles 3<SP>1</SP> returned to the bottom cylinder knit at feed F2. while non-selected needles, which have remained in a low track, do not knit. The machine is also modified so that needles selected to tuck in the bottom cylinder at the first feed also tuck at the second. Bolt transfer cams (16, 21, Fig. 6, not shown) at the first feed are withdrawn, and needles are selected (at C) either to knit or tuck in the bottom cylinder at the first feed. A bolt cam (29) in the track of the bottom slider butts raises un-selected needles to tuck height. Needles tucking at the first feed. remain un-selected at the second feed and tuck again. All the remaining selector jacks and jacks are raised by cams (24, 25-6 respectively) before selection is made. Jacks of needles selected to be transferred to the top cylinder are further raised by a cam (15). All needles in the top cylinder are transferred to the bottom cylinder by cam (21), then those selected to knit in the top are transferred by transfer cam (16). Sliders of needles to knit in the bottom cylinder are raised by cam (14) but remain in the bottom knitting track, as their jacks passed below the transfer cam.
