Abstract
1,111,742. Knitting. TEXTILE MACHINE WORKS. 28 Sept., 1965 [7 Oct., 1964], No. 41205/65 Heading D1C. In a four feed circular machine where auxiliary feeds become inoperative before reciprocation, certain needles of selected special groups tuck, thereby avoiding eyelet formation. Yarn withdrawal. When the yarns are to be withdrawn before knitting the heel, the stitch cam at auxiliary feed 17 is partially withdrawn so as to miss the short butt needles of the group 78 associated with the next auxiliary feed 18. The short butt needle pass through the station at tuck height taking, but not knitting the yarn, whilst the remaining needles in the group take and knit the yarn. As the group approaches its feed 18 a selector lever 82 is activated to act on jack butts at a first level 85 to prevent them engaging the clearing cam 55. A second lever 80 acts on butts at a second level 81 to prevent raising of the group during reciprocation. At feed 18 the short butt needles knit the fed yarn and the previous yarn together, whilst the remaining needles tuck a stitch of the fed yarn with the previous yarn. As the other feeds are activated the lower part 27 of the main stitch cam is withdrawn to miss the short butts of the other special groups of needles 77, 76. The groups are selected by jack butt levers (at levels 95, 85 Fig. 4 not shown) to ensure that the groups approach the auxiliary feeds 16, 17 at tuck height. Levers 80 again act on butts at the second level to prevent raising during reciprocation. The yarns are similarly withdrawn before knitting the toe. Yarn Introduction. When the auxiliary yarns are to be introduced after knitting makeup courses or the heel, the lower part 27 of the main stitch cam is partially retracted to miss the short butt needles of each group. As the first group 78 approaches auxiliary station 16, a selector lever 65 (at level 95 Fig. 4) tilts the jacks away from the raising cam 55. The needles approach the auxiliary cam at tuck height and knit tuck stitches as at yarn withdrawal. Needles following the group are raised to knit by the raising cam. The special groups approaching the other auxiliary feeds are similarly selected, and the feeds are activated simultaneously.
