Abstract

877,060. Knitting. MONTFORT (KNITTING MILLS) Ltd. March 16, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1958], No. 40535/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). A sock has at least the underpart of the foot composed of an open-work structure formed by incorporating tuck stitches in the plain wales of the rib fabric forming the under part. This is achieved on an opposed cylinder machine employing double-ended needles with patterning mechanism for controlling the transfer of the needles from one to the other of the cylinders. In addition the tuck stitches are formed on selected needles by the employment of needles devoid of lower latches, the tuck loops of the tuck stitches being formed while such needles are in the upper cylinder and the tuck stiches being thereafter completed with the needles in the bottom or plain cylinder. The tuck rib fabric structure may also occur in upper or instep part of the foot and along and around the leg.
