Abstract

1421594 Tufting machines PENDHILL ENG Ltd 13 Feb 1974 [6 March 1973] 10682/ 73 Heading D1G In a tufting machine pairs of yarn-feeding rollers 11, 12 are coupled to rotate together, and one of them receives its drive from a succession of coupled gear assemblies 28, 29, 30, one gear of which is selectively coupled to a corresponding driving shaft 50, 54, 55 which rotate at different speeds. Gears 47, 48, 49 on the driving shafts mesh permanently with freely rotating gears 38. An electro-magnetic clutch 39 is provided on each assembly 28, 29, 30 to couple the chosen driven gear 38 to the driven gear 34, toprovide the required speed. In modifications the shafts 50, 54, 55 may rotate at the same speed and different sizes of gears may be used to provide different speeds of yarn-feed.
