Abstract
1442248 Variable speed gear ALBERT FRANKENTHAL AG 30 Aug 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 37967/74 Heading F2D Very fine differential speeds are superimposed on the prevailing speed of a printing roller 1, to compensate for variations in web tension, by a harmonic planetary gear comprising an elastically deformable sleeve 12, secured at one end to the roller 1 and having at its other end external teeth, meshing internal teeth 11 in a wheel 9, secured to a freely mounted wheel 3 driven by a main wheel 2, the differential rotation being imposed by driving an elliptical stator 14, bearing in the deformable sleeve 12, and driven by the gear-wheel 3 through a wheel 18 and steplessly variable-ratio gear 15. When no differential is to be imposed, the stator 14 is rotated at the same speed as that of the roller, and speed variation is produced by varying the speed of the stator to produce harmonic elliptical deformation of the sleeve 12, causing it to planetate in the ring 9.
