Abstract

The differential gear employs sun and planet pinions of relatively small dia. which under high torque can cause reversal of rotation of one of the shafts, in differentials of this type. This is obviated by the supply of oil through a hole in the central shaft which is fed to the space between meshing planet gears. When relative motion occurs between these pairs the oil supplied from the central shaft is pumped across the gears creating a pressure load on the gear teeth and preventing reverse rotation of either shaft.
