Abstract

1,270,255. Washing machines. HOOVER Ltd. 21 April, 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20226/68. Heading D1A. A drive mechanism between a reversing main drive motor of a washing machine and a uni-directional pump 10 includes a lost motion arc between intermediate and output rotary members 22 and 23 with shoulders 24, 25 which interengage, after the lost motion arc has been taken up, to drive the pump. As shown the drive mechanism incorporates planetary gearing such that about 194 turns of the input pulley 14 would be required before the lost motion arc was taken up to drive the pump backwards and the motor is reversed at for example 12 second intervals, before the lost motion arc is taken up to drive the pump, during a washing cycle. The pulley 14 and integral sun gear 16 is a plastics moulding with a groove for locating a planet gear 18 which meshes with both the intermediate annulus gear 22 with fifty teeth and the output annulus gear which has fortynine teeth and is secured to the input shaft 11 of the pump.
