Abstract

1,000,642. Gearing for stopping machinery. MORRIS & BUTTERS Ltd. May 27, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9371/63. Heading F2L. [Also in Division B7] In a mobile crane, wheels 10 mounted on axles 12 roll on tracks 11 and are driven by an electric motor 16 through a reducing gear mechanism 17 and pinions 13, 14, a pinion 13 being rigidly attached to each wheel 12. The pinion 19 in the reduction gear 17 is axially slidable on splines and may be withdrawn from engagement with its coacting pinion by rotating a threaded member 23 which coacts with a plate 24 sliding on guides 22 and rigid with a claw 21. A rod 30 may be attached to the claw 21 to indicate that the pinion has been withdrawn and the drive to the wheels disconnected.
