Abstract

An overhead crane has driving wheels 28 with coaxially mounted driving motors which are mounted on end frames 3 of the travelling gantry by bolts 33 so that by removing these bolts and bolts (38), Fig. 11 (not shown), which attach the motor housing to the gantry, the wheel and its drive may be detached as a unit and moved away from tl e gantry along rails 7. In addition to the motor (40), a brake (41) and planetary reduction gear (42) are provided. These may be removed as a unit from splines on the wheel axle (27) by removing bolts (38), thus leaving the wheel in position.
