Abstract

1368801 Transmission systems H STEINER Ltd 23 Dec 1971 [1 Jan 1971] 56/71 Heading B7H [Also in Divisions B8 and E1] A power transmission system, particularly for a vehicle, includes a propeller shaft 12 which may be selectively driven from the vehicle engine or an auxiliary hydraulic, electric or pneumatic motor controlled from a point remote from the engine. The shaft is normally driven from the engine gear-box 8 via shafts 9 and 21. To provide four wheel drive for a vehicle a further shaft 13 carrying a rotatable gear 28 meshing with a rigid gear 26 on shaft 21 is included, the gear 28 being locked by a clutch 29 when required. The auxiliary motor 16 may be situated at 16A, 16B or 16C. In position 16A or 16B the motor drives a shaft 20, directly or via shaft 17, which carries a rotatable gear 24 meshing with gear 26 and lockable by clutch 25. In position 16C the motor may drive shaft 9 via gears 18 and 19, gear 18 being lockable by clutch 33. The vehicle may be a tipping lorry provided with loading and excavating equipment, including a frame fitted to the lorry and having extending parts 115 which support an upright 125 having an extensible foot por- tion 126 and an upper rotatable portion 132 carrying an excavating jib 136.
