Abstract

743,938. Mobile jib cranes. RHEINMETALL AKT.-GES. July 2, 1953 [July 4, 1952], No. 18404/53. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XXXI] The driving motor or engine 6, gearing 7 driving the rear axle 5, and the rear axle itself, form a unit separable from the travelling chassis 3 of a mobile slewing jib crane the motions of which are also driven through take-offs 10, 11 from the gearing 7. In the form illustrated the removable driving and rear axle unit is provided with side members 7<SP>1</SP> adapted to slide into guides 8 on the travelling chassis to be secured by straps (not shown). The slewing and hoisting mechanisms are driven through a pair of corresponding reversing gears 14 which together -form a unit mounted by means of slides 18, 19 for removal in a downward direction from the travelling chassis. The reversing gearing 14 may alternatively be driven from a common take-off. The slewing gear operates a pinion 15 which engages inside the usual slewing ring 2. The hoisting gear is connected by splined shafts 16, 17 to drive the winding drums for the hoisting and luffing cables and for a cable controlling operation of a grab. Control of the gearing is effected from the cab 1 by compressed air conduits led through bores in the shafts 16, 17 or connected by rotary couplings surrounding these shafts, or the control may be effected by mechanical, hydraulic or electrical transmission. Several interchangeable power units may be provided for attachment to the travelling chassis so that the crane may alternatively be provided with a petrol engine, a diesel engine or an electric motor. The front axle 4 of the crane is cranked to permit the crane to be withdrawn rearwardly from over the lowered gear unit 14.
