Abstract
Control and engine equipment for ships' derricks for use with a mast or a rotatable column comprises a self-contained control and engine unit composed of a closed engine compartment 46 and a driver's cab 49 mounted on cantilever supports 47, 48, the unit comprising vertical and horizontal base-plates 2, 3 for attaching it to the mast or column, means for controlling luffing, slewing and hoisting gear, associated hydraulic pump means, and pipe couplings for connection to such gear. The slewing and luffing gear is powered from a twin hydraulic pump 13, pipes 14, 16 leading to controllers 15, 17 operated through links 10, 11 by levers 4, 5. Pipes 22, 23 and 28, 29 lead from the controllers 15, 17 to couplings for connection to the respective gears. The hoist gear is powered from a pump 34 controlled through a link 9 by the lever 4, and pipes 36, 37 lead from the pump to couplings for connection to the gear and a pipe 42 leads to a coupling for connection to a hoist brake. Both pumps 13, 34 are driven by an electric motor 45. Embodiments of the equipment used with a mast, Figs. I and 3 (not shown), and with a rotatable column, Figs. 2, 4, 5 and 6 (not shown), are described. A further embodiment of the equipment used with each of twin derricks stayed from a mast is also described, Fig. 9 (not shown).
