Abstract
1,044,737. Hand brake mechanisms. NEATE BRAKE CONTROLS Ltd. Oct. 6, 1965 [Sept. 24, 1964], No. 38999/64. Heading F2E. In a brake application mechanism wherein a hand lever 7 is operated in a succession of strokes to rotate a curved surface 1 to wind-on a cable or chain 15, the curved surface is provided with a projection 18 projecting beyond the radius of a portion 17 of the surface and disposed so that as the surface is rotated in a brakeapplying direction the cable or chain is initially tangential to a circle having the radius of the projection and subsequently contacts the portion 17 whereby the mechanical advantage of the mechanism is then increased. The hold-on pawl 11 is releasable by a press-button 22, rod 21 and arm 19. The actuating pawl 8 pivoted to the lever, has a surface 25 which abuts a stop 13, in the released position of the lever, to move the pawl clear of the ratchet teeth 9 and release the disc. A stop 24 on the disc 1 contacts the lever when the brake is fully " off."
