Abstract
771,620. Door latches. ARMSTRONG, R. G., and ARMSTRONG, F. G. G. Nov. 25, 1955 [Nov. 30, 1954], No. 34606/54. Class 44. A pedal - operated door latch releasing arrangement comprises a pedal lever 16 connected by a tension means 17 to operating mechanism 18 of a door latch, the pedal lever being provided with a vertical abutment 19 against which the edge of the operator's shoe is engageable for pulling away from the door surface. As shown, the operating mechanism is a lever projecting from a spindle 15 of the door latch and the tension means is a cord 17. The pedal lever 16 is attached to the door by means of a fulcrum spindle 22 and on the upper edge of the vertical abutment 19 it has a pedal surface 20. The vertical abutment 19 is positioned sufficiently far from the door surface so that the operator can place his shoe between it and the door surface for pulling the door open. Another pedal lever may be provided on the opposite face of the door and it may either be connected to the fulcrum spindle 22 so as to operate the door latch through the cord 17 and lever 18 or it may be connected through a second cord and second lever to the latch spindle 15 on its own side of the door. A stop 25 or two stops if there are two pedal levers limit downward movement of the lever or levers.
