Abstract

665,458. Cycle brakes. SOMVILLE, C. May 11, 1948 [Feb. 17, 1948], No. 12885/48. Class 136(i) A cycle brake comprises two crossed levers 1, 2 pivotally connected at 3 about a common fixed axis, the levers carrying brake shoes 4, 5 at one end and having at their other ends symmetrical extensions on each side of the axis 3, a spring 20 pressing each of the levers 1, 2 in the direction of the wheel, a cable 16 interconnecting the outer ends 17, 18 of the extensions and connected intermediate its ends to an element 6 controlled by the brake lever and adapted to be moved thereby towards or away from the pivotal axis 3 in the plane of the levers to effect operation of the brake. The element 6 consists of a block sliding in a guide 12 and carrying a roller 15 over which the cable 16 passes. A cable 19 connects the block 6 to the brake lever.
