Abstract

846,816. Band brakes. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 21, 1958, No. 37496/58. Class 103 (1). A brake comprises a band 11 connected by pins 17, 18 to double links 12, 13 pivoted at 20, 21 to a stationary member 14; upward movement of a forked lever 24 pivoted at 25 to link 13 and carrying a rod 26 passing through a block 27 pivoted between double link 12, draws the ends of the links and band together to apply the band to drum 10. Depending on the direction of rotation of drum 10, either the toe 12a or 13a of link 12 or 13, respectively, will abut member 14, the corresponding link 12 or 13 then acting as a reaction member and further movement of the other link by lever 24 tightens the band. A nut 28 on rod 26 adjusts the band clearance of drum 10 and the brake is released by a spring 23 acting on pins 17, 18.
