Abstract
746,304. Internal shoe-drum brakes. BRAY, M. D. Feb. 17, 1954 [March 9, 1953], No. 4714/54. Class 103 (1). An internal shoe-drum brake has a series of shoes 13, 14, 15 and 16 adapted to be applied to the drum by radially disposed fluid-pressure actuator pistons 28, the shoes being pivoted upon pins 17 secured by lugs 10 to the backplate, the pins 17 engaging the ends of extensions 18 of the shoe webs, which pass within the hollow part of an adjacent shoe, as shown sectioned in Fig. 7, so that the shoe friction elements extend around substantially the full circumference of the drum. Fig. 8 shows an arrangement in which provision is made for mechanical operation as by a cable-operated arm 45, which operates connecting-rods 34, 35, 36 and 37 through a double swing bar 42.
