In an internal shoe-drum brake, the shoes 4 are moved into engagement with the drum 2 by the action of symmetrically arranged cam members 10 on a disc 9 rotatable on the axis of the brake by a lever 16 through gearing 12, 13, the cams 10 engaging cams 7 of which two are symmetrically arranged on the inner edge of each shoe 4. The brake may be operated by hydraulic or pneumatic means.
