489,639. Internal shoe brakes. SOC. D'INVENTIONS AERONAUTIQUES ET MECANIQUES, S.I.A.M. Oct. 24, 1936, No. 28973. Void. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1935. [Class 103 (i)] ' An internal brake comprises shoes 2 mounted on spindles 9, 10 carried by limbs 11, 12 pivoting on fixed spindles 13, 14. The shoes are applied to the drum by fluid-pressure piston 21a engaging arm 19 integral with link 12. A vacuum cylinder may be used. Another piston 21b operates another lever 19. A brake comprising four quadrantal shoes is shown. The shoes may be applied by levers fixed to spindles 13, 14, two shoes being operated through a balance lever. A brake comprising five radially moving shoes operated by a central quintuple cam is shown. These shoes may be guided by a guide block in a slot or by parallel links. Automatic adjustment comprises a pawl 26 carried by an arm 24 integral with the link 12 and adapted to slip a tooth on a rack 28 when the brake lining wears. Rack 28 is freely pivoted on spindle 14 and allowed limited movement by stops 31, 33 the distance between which can be adjusted.
