Abstract

932,819. Internal shoe drum brakes. FIAT S.p.A. Oct. 18, 1961 [Oct. 22, 1960], No. 37321/61. Class 103 (1). An automatic adjuster for the shoes 1, 2 of an internal shoe drum brake comprises rods 7, 8 pivotally mounted on a back plate 3 by means of slotted holes 7a, 8a engaging pins 9, 10 secured to the back plate, levers 13, 14 pivoted at 15, 16 to the respective shoes and provided with holes 11, 12 of larger diameter than the rods through which the rods pass, and springs 17, 18 which urge the levers to grip the rods, the levers being capable of sliding along the rods during application of the brake but gripping the rods tightly when the brake is released, so that a constant clearance of the brake linings with respect to the drum determined by the play provided by the slotted holes 7a, 8a is maintained.
