889,584. Internal shoe-drum brakes. ZAVODY G. KRETNA, NARODNI PODNIK. April 28. 1960 [May 4, 1959], No. 15017/60. Class 103 (1). An internal shoe brake comprises two leading shoes 4, 5 pivoted at 2, 3 to a stationary backplate 1 and biased clear of a drum 21 by springs 20, and a separate operating mechanism for each shoe comprising a lever 6 (7) pivoted at 2 (3) to back-plate 1 and a control lever 12 (13) pivoted at 10 (11) to lever 6 (7) and at 9 (8) to shoe 5 (4), a common actuating member 16 rocks levers 12, 13, to move pivots 9, 8 and thus the free ends of the shoes away from pivots 2, 3 respectively to apply the brake. The member 16, rotated by cable 19, has an oval bore with two parallel straight portions 23, 26 engaging the backing-plate hub 17, on a line d between pivots 10, 11, and enabling the member 16 to centre on hub 17 should inaccuracies occur in the shoes or operating mechanism, to apply both shoes to the drum simultaneously. Stops 22 formed on levers 12, 13 limit the release movement of the shoes.
