Abstract
1,058,288. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. May 7, 1964 [May 7, 1963], No. 19021/64. Heading F2E. A spot type disc brake having a brake support 1 apertured at 11 straddling the disc 2, a caliper 3 straddling the disc and located in the aperture and an actuator 9 in the caliper and brake pads 5 carried by and retained in the aperture is characterized by the caliper being located by two surfaces 15 extending parallel with the sides of the aperture and the caliper being provided with a pin 17, one end of which slidably engages one of the surfaces and on which a hand brake device including a lever 21 and a cam 23 is rotatably mounted. Two such hand brake devices are provided on the embodiment shown and are operated by a single cable 19. The levers 21 are coupled to the cams 23 by inter-engaging teeth 24 thereon, pawls 26 on the caliper engaging the teeth on the cams. When clearance is excessive and the levers are operated the pawls fall behind the next tooth. On release of the levers the teeth are permitted to override each other as the levers move against springs 25 to readjust the angular position of the levers relative to the cams. A spring 6 (Fig. 2, not shown) is fitted under the caliper bridge to bias the brake pads radially inwardly of the disc.
