Abstract

720,257. Internal shoe-drum brakes. KELSEYHAYES WHEEL CO. Dec. 30, 1952 [Jan. 21, 1952],. No. 33005/52. Class 103 (1). An internal shoe-drum brake comprises a pair of main brake shoes 3 and 4 having located between adjacent ends thereof starting or auxiliary shoes 5 and 6 which are engaged with the drum by the action of a fluid pressure actuator 30 'which operates a pair of levers 28 passing through the back plate, adjustable thrust screw members 34, 35 on the levers 28 acting through cam members 19 forcing them radially apart. Rotation of the drum causes circumferential movement of shoes 5 and 6 such as to rotate the cams 19 and spread apart the main shoes 3 and 4, the cams fulcrumming upon the screw members 34, 35.
