Abstract

671,120. internal shoe - drum brakes. HENSE, H., and PLEINES, A. April 27, 1949, No. 11141/49. Class 103 (i). In an internal shoe-drum brake having primary and secondary shoes 2 and 3 for the normal rotation of the drum, the secondary shoe 3 has pivoted thereon about a fixed axis located rearwardly from its middle point, at least one auxiliary shoe or brake-drum engaging member 11, the effect of the rotation of the drum being such as to cause the auxiliary shoe to increase its frictional force in the manner of a primary shoe so that each of the shoes 2 and 3 exerts a substantially equal braking force. The auxiliary shoe 11 is normally held retracted against a stop 15, that may be radially adjustable on the main shoe 3, by a spring 14. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 there are three such auxiliary shoes 18 pivoted both to the main primary shoe 2 as well as the main secondary shoe 3.
