Abstract
530,362. Vehicle brakes. PARKER, R. W. June 24, 1939, No. 18419. [Class 103 (i)] In vehicle brakes of the kind in which brake shoes B are moved outwardly against the inner surface of a wheel drum by means of a rotatable cam ring C shown as turning within a circular wall a' on the face of a fixed disc a, pressure is applied to at least three points of each of the shoes B, which are made flexible, two of the points of pressure being at the ends of each shoe. Pieces D are each acted upon by cam faces c<SP>3</SP> to apply pressure to the contiguous ends of adjoining shoes B. Stems b are attached to the inner mid-portions of the shoes B and are provided with shoulders b' engaged by the cam faces c<SP>3</SP> to apply pressure to the shoes B. This application of pressure intermediate of the shoe ends may be delayed until after that to the ends by means of the engagement of cam faces c<SP>4</SP> with shoulders b<SP>2</SP> on short stems b<SP>3</SP> pivoted to the stems b. This construction also results in positive withdrawal of the stems b and the attached shoes when the ring C is returned to the " off " position of the brake shown by Fig. 1.
