Abstract
532,295. Brakes. MORRIS COMMERCIAL CARS, Ltd., and LEEDING, E. J. Aug. 25, 1939, No. 24467. [Class 103 (i)] A pair of floating brake shoes are arranged to be expanded to engage a brake drum by pressure applied to a semi-elliptic or bow spring which acts also to retract the shoes. A bow spring 11 is connected by pins 12 to the shoes 4 the ends of which normally engage stops 6, 8 which may be adjustable and the faces of which are radial with respect to the drum. Pressure applied by a hydraulic plunger 13 to the spring 11 causes first the application to the drum of the lower ends of the shoes and then the shoes as a whole. When applied, one end of each shoe abuts on the adjacent stop so that both shoes are self-energizing irrespective of the direction of drum rotation. The hydraulic plunger may be replaced by a cam.
