Abstract

493,091. Automatic adjustment of brake shoes. HOF, H. VAN DER. July 1, 1937, No. 18370. [Class 103 (i)] The shoes of internal expanding brakes are each provided with an automatic adjusting means comprising two parts 12, 13 pivotally connected to the back plate and shoe respectively and connected to each other by a one-way locking-element comprising a steel disc 18 mounted on the part 13 and engaging the inner wall of the cylindrical part 12 at an acute angle of contact. The disc may have saw-cuts dividing it into segments. The part 13 is made of two parts screwed together. A predetermined amount of clearance a allows the brake shoes to be applied and released. U.S.A. Specification 2,074,710 is referred to.
