Abstract

1,018,039. Internal shoe drum brakes. ANDRE CITROEN S.A. March 13, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10835/64. Heading F2E. In an internal shoe drum brake of the type having leading and trailing shoes 1a, 1b respectively which are mounted on pivot pins 3a, 3b on a backing plate 4 and whose free ends are spread apart by an applying means, e.g. an hydraulic cylinder 5, two return springs of different power are provided, the stronger spring 7 acting only on the leading shoe and the weaker spring 9 between the two shoes, or between the trailing shoe and the backing plate, whereby when the brake is applied the trailing shoe engages the drum first and effects initial light braking before the leading shoe is brought into engagement.
