In a two leading shoe internal expanding drum brake each of the shoes 4, 5 comprises, with its operating mechanism, a four-bar kinematic chain of which the back plate functions as a fixed bar, the actuating member 11, 12 of one shoe 4 is pivoted to the plate at 3 and connected to the shoe by an auxiliary link 9 pivoted to the shoe at 8 and to the actuating member, the actuating member 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> of the other shoe 5 being pivoted to that shoe at 81 and connected by a pivoted auxiliary link 9<SP>1</SP> to the back plate. The arms 12, 12<SP>1</SP> of the actuating members are actuated by a cable 14, 15 as shown or by hydraulic means.
