690,609. Internal shoe - drum brakes. PORSCHE KONSTRUKTIONEN GES. Nov. 9, 1951 [Feb. 1, 1951], No. 26304/51. Class 103 (i). An internal shoe-drum brake of the kind in which the shoes are applied to the brake drum by means of a hydraulic cylinder 2 and piston 4 located outside the brake drum and operating against a two-armed lever 13, the other end of which projects within the brake drum, is characterized in that force is transmitted to the brake shoe webs by two expanding levers 11 and 12 which guide one another. The two-armed lever 13 is pivoted on the lever 12 and has a notch 21 by which it engages the lever 11, which is U-shaped to allow it to slide over the lever 12. The different lengths of the arms a and b of the lever 13 cause a greater proportion of the force exerted by the hydraulic piston 22 to be applied to the non-servo-shoe 8 so that the work done by each shoe is made more equal. Provision is also made for mechanical actuation by means of terminal 25 interlocked with a guide-piece 23 in front of the plunger 22.
