Abstract

1,000,564. Master cylinders. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINEN-UND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES.]. April 1, 1963 [April 19, 1962], No. 12803/63. Heading F2F. A master cylinder 1 for a vehicle braking system has connections 20, 21 to the rear drum brakes and front disc brakes respectively, and is provided with tandem actuator and floating stepped pistons 5, 2, the latter having large and small portions 3, 4. A compressed spring 23 is mounted between the actuator piston 5 and the large stepped portion 3, and a stronger compression spring 17 between the portion 3 and a disc 16 mounted in a shoulder in the cylinder and serving as a stop for either direction of movement of piston 2. Upon actuating piston 5, pressure liquid first passes through connection 20 to the rear brakes, piston 2 being held stationary by spring 17, but as the pressure rises piston 2 delivers liquid through connection 21 to the front brakes, the reduced diameter of the end portion 11 of the cylinder resulting in an increased pressure for operating the disc brakes.
