Abstract

487,968. Internal expanding brakes. HYDRAULIC BRAKE CO. Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5835. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1936. [Class 103 (i)] In an internal expanding brake a stop 56 for the leading shoe 14 in the normal direction of drum rotation is automatically adjusted by the following shoe 16. The stop 56 is mounted on a lever 54, the pivot of which is frictionally gripped to the brake back plate. A link 68 connects this lever to the shoe 16 by means of a lost motion connection 88, which when taken up during brake application after the brake lining has worn, moves lever 54 and stop 56 to a new position. The bar 68 has thermostatic properties so that it expands with the drum with heat and maintains the shoes in normal adjustment. The link 68 passes through an oversize hole in the lever 54 which it engages by means of a spring 76. The link 68 is in two parts connected by a right- and left-hand screwed adjustment 92.
