[Class 103 (i).] In wear-compensating mechanism for brakes in which the release position of each shoe M is governed by that of a movable frictionally-held stop U against which the shoe abuts, the stop U comprises a cylindrical member which is slotted circumferentially to make it resilient, and projects through a hole T in the shoe with a clearance equal to the normal brake-shoe clearance. The stop is bolted to a plate V having a recessed periphery-engaged by the rim of the brake drum P, the plate being frictionally held on a stationary disc so that it moves with the drum on expansion, and subsequent contraction of the drum due to the heat developed during braking.
