639,291. Hydraulic brakes. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Feb. 5, 1948, No. 3453. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1940. [Class 103 (i)] In a brake comprising a series of arcuate friction elements 12 that are pressed into engagement with a drum by a distensible annular member 22, the member 22 is protected against damage at the parts where it passes beneath the lugs 18 that locate the elements 12 circumferentially by the insertion of a shim 26 that is placed directly beneath the ends of adjacent elements 12 and has an upstanding rib 28 that fits between the two ends.
