Abstract

459,006. Friction clutches. BORG & BECK CO., Ltd., Brock House, Langham Street, London. Feb. 14, 1936, No. 4578. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] The carrier disc 7 of a clutch plate is provided with alternating radial tongues 9 and 10, one friction facing 14 being secured to the central part of the tongues 9 by rivets 15, while the other facing 12 and curved cushioning plates 11 are secured on opposite sides of the tongues 10 by central rivets 13. Each tongue 9 is curved, as shown in Fig. 4, so that its base and free end engage the facing 12, the ends of the plates 11 engaging the facing 14. The tongues 9 thus assist in the cushioning action. A lip 16 struck from each plate 11 engages an opening 17 in the associated tongue 10 so as to prevent turning of the plate. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, each tongue 9 is so curved that only its base initially engages the facing 12 ; this gives a two-stage cushioning action, as the free ends of the tongues 9 come into engagement with the facing 12 after the plates 11 and the portions of the tongues 9 between the base and the rivets 15 have been partially straightened.
