Abstract

999,884. Friction clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Sept. 18, 1963 [Sept. 21, 1962; March 19, 1963], Nos. 36048/62 and 10832/63. Heading F2C. The driven plate of a friction clutch comprises a pair of spring discs 15 secured on opposite sides of a hub ring 16, their peripheral spacing being constrained, to place them under stress, by a series of rivets 18 which serve to secure friction elements 17 to the discs. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the discs are plane, but in that of Fig. 6, tongues 27 located between the rivets 18 are bent out from one of the discs and engage the other. In a further form, Fig. 4 (not shown), the rivets 18 hold the discs 15 to a slightly inward conical form so that the clutch pressure plate first engages the inner edges of the friction elements 17 to flatten them, and then squeezes the discs, to give a two-stage application.
