Abstract

434,019. Clutch plates. BORG & BECK CO., 6558, South Menard Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Jan. 25, 1934, No. 2636. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1933. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch plate comprises a single disc member 1 with one or two friction facings 9, 10 supported by resilient means of progressive resistance situated at its peripheral zone, which means comprise two or more parts or groups of parts arranged to come into and go out of operation in succession during the respective operations of engaging and disengaging the clutch. In one construction, Figs. 1 and 2, tongues 6, 7 are bent from the plane of the disc 1 beyond the edges of curved sectors 2, 3 so that, on engagement of the clutch, first the tongues give a comparatively light resistance and then the sectors give a stronger resistance to the compression of the plate. In another construction, Figs. 19 and 20 one facing only is resiliently mounted on circumferentially directed tongues 23 which have a double bend therein, one 24 at the base of each tongue and one 25 midway so that these tongues first bend about 24 to give an initial light resistance and then about 25 to give a considerably stronger resistance. A number of other constructions are described.
