482,808. Friction clutches. BORG & BECK CO., Ltd. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 30024. Convention date, June 12. [Class 80 (ii)] A driven clutch plate comprises a disc 4, to the periphery of which bowed cushioning members 8, carrying the annular friction facings 6 and 7, are secured by inwardly-projecting tabs 9, the inner diameter of the facings being greater than the diameter of the disc 4. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, pairs of members 8 are arranged back-to-back, each member being formed with two bowed portions 12a and 12b against which the facings rest, while the two members of each pair are in contact at their middle portion 11. The facings are riveted to the portions 12b. The members 8 of each pair may also contact at their ends, or, as shown in Fig. 4, the portions 12a may be bowed to a less extent than the portions 12b, so as to give a two-stage action during clutch engagement. In the form shown in Fig. 6, reversely-bowed members 8 are arranged singly, the bowed portion 17 being riveted to the facing 6 and the bowed portion 18 to the facing 7. Increased resistance is provided by an additional bowed portion 22. As shown in Fig. 8, adjacent single cushion members 8 are bowed in opposite directions and riveted to the facings.
