Abstract

1,212,042. Resilient clutch discs. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 26 June, 1969 [12 July, 1968], No. 33402/68. Heading F2U. A clutch friction plate comprises an annular disc connected to a hub 10 by leaf springs 25 received in radially outwardly divergent slots 14 in a flange 11 on the hub 10 which allow relative angular movement until the springs abut the slot sides, to cushion initial drive take-up, or torque reversal, the slots 14 having rounded bottoms 13 and having their minimum circumferential width at the junction 15 of the diverging sides and the bottoms. Again, Fig. 3, (not shown), the sides (26) of the slots are convex so that the springs engage the walls over increasing lengths to change their effective length and provide a variable-stiffness characteristic. The annular disc comprises a pair of friction material annulli 23 on inserts 22 connected between two flanges 16 which are formed with slots 24 receiving the outer corners of the rectangular leaf springs.
