Abstract

546,215. Brakes. THORNLEY, H. S. March 18, 1941, Nos. 3691 and 4656. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A brake, shown in Fig. 1, with shoes B adapted to be applied to the interior of a drum A and having parallel grooves a in the drum with which ridges c in the abrasive linings C of the shoes co-operate in braking has the shoes maintained with the ridges and grooves in alignment by constraining the shoes to slide radially between the fixed plate D<SP>1</SP> of the brake and a parallel plate D distanced therefrom. The ridges may be formed by repeated applications of the brake shoes to the drum; or by the device 'shown in Figs. S and 7 comprising a tool E divided into segments and formed with cutting grooves 'and which is mounted for rotation in a lathe, the shoes B being mounted on a carrier F slidably mounted on the lathe bed-plate.
