Abstract

1,025,881. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. April 4, 1962 [April 12, 1961], No. 13105/61. Heading F2E. A friction pad assembly for a disc brake comprises a pad in the form of a single rigid block of friction material 11 secured to a flat, rigid backing plate 21 and having an operative face in which is formed grooves 12 or holes. In Fig. 1 (not shown), friction pads 13 are bonded to rigid steel backing plates 14 which are received in a central opening in the caliper and are urged into contact with the disc by opposed hydraulic cylinders 15, the plates 14 being slidably guided by caliper surfaces 16 which take the braking torque.
