[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups V and XXXIV] In a brake or clutch wherein the friction elements are brought into operation by the inflation of an expander, or expanders, the expander is formed with a relatively thick operating wall and a relatively thin re-active wall, the intervening cavity being extended at the margins towards the face of the operating wall. The expander may be annular, or it may be made of suitable sheet material (see Group V) in the form of a rectangular pad, in which case, an expander is associated with each face of a polygonal support 21 and is located by side and end walls 23. Each shoe 26 is guided by a pin 28 on the shoe sliding in a slot 19a in the disc 19 integral with the support 21, and the shoes are retracted by tension springs .54. A metal inflation fitting 51 is internally threaded to receive a tapered union bolt 62 which secures the coupling pipe 64 to the fitting 51.
