650,265. Drum brakes. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Feb. 5, 1948, No. 3454. Convention date, May 24, 1939. [Class 103 (i)] In a construction of drum brake, the arcuate brake blocks 42 are retained between the flanges 64 of a circular rim 106 by means of transverse springs 62. acting therebetween, which also serve to retract the blocks 42 from the brake drum surface. The springs 62 are located in grooves 60 formed in the end surfaces of adjacent blocks 42 and have bent over ends which project through transverse aligned holes in flanges .64. The size of the springs 62 and slots 60 are such that they may be removed, as shown in the right-hand part of Fig. 7, in a way that makes it unnecessary to dismantle the parts of the rim 106. Although, as shown, the invention is embodied in a double rim aircraft wheel brake actuated by annular expander tubes, the invention is not limited to this construction.
