Abstract
595,322. Brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and GATES, G. R. G. Dec. 4, 1944, No. 24231. [Class 103 (i)] An adjuster for an internal shoe drum brake comprises an angularly movable cam 27 with notched edge, which is pivoted on the web 24 of a brake shoe 12 and is engaged by a projection 34 carried by the head 22 of an actuating hydraulic plunger 18. The actuator for the shoe 13 is provided at its lower end, the anchorage for the shoe 13 at the upper end being provided by the fixed cylinder 17. The cam 27 comprises similar elements on the two sides of the web 24, mounted on a spindle which is housed in a recess 25 in the web, and which has a screwdriver slot in its end by which the cam may be adjusted. In alternatives, the adjuster may co-operate with an anchorage fixed to the back-plate, either the cam or its follower being mounted on the backplate to serve as the anchorage, or it may be used with shoes of the floating type which engage an abutment at either end, either between the shoe and a spreading device which serves also as an abutment according to the direction of rotation, or between the shoe and an abutment which is independent of the spreading device but which receives the braking force from the shoe.
