Abstract

632,701. Internally-expanding brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 16, 1947, No. 13289. Convention date, June 6, 1946. [Class 103 (i)] An internally-expanding brake comprises two shoes 70 and two hydraulic actuators 24 located diametrically opposite one another on a fixed support-plate 14. Each actuator 24 comprises a casing closed at one end 28 and having a cylindrical bore 32 at the other end, within which reciprocates a single piston 34. Each shoe 70 has one of its ends 74 slidingly and pivotally engaged in a recess 30 in the closed end of the actuator 24 and its other end similarly engaged in a recess 60 in a cap 58 secured to the piston 34. This arrangement permits the shoes to move longitudinally during braking to compensate for any eccentricity of the shoes with respect to the drum. Specifications 628,411 and 630,380 are referred to.
