Abstract
565,532. Brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Feb. 23, 1943, No. 2992. Convention date, May 11, 1942. [Class 103 (i)] A brake of the kind comprising a pair of shoes each arranged to anchor at one end or the other according to the direction of rotation of the drum is applied by a single hydraulic cylinder of which, according to Fig. 1, the cylinder proper 21 and the piston 22 respectively apply the shoes 13, 14 through thrust members 23, 26 engaging the shoes at 24, 25, 30, 31. The member 26 has an opening for the wheel axle as shown. The shoes anchor on a block 15 and on members 17, 18 slidable in a casing 16 and adjusted by a wedge disposed between their inner ends. When the brake is applied, the parts 21, 22, 23, 26 rotate slightly with the shoes to permit the shoes to anchor. In a modification, the cylinder contains a pair of pistons, one of which acts directly on the centre of the shoe 13 and the other on the member 26.
