Abstract

467,341. Drum brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd., and BOUGHTON, E. B. Dec. 16, 1935, No. 34875. [Class 103 (i)] An internal brake comprises two shoes adapted to anchor at one end or the other according to the rotation of the drum and each slidable radially upon a fixed abutment at one end and the applying means at the other. Shoes 10, 11 are operated by fixed cylinders 16, 17 having pistons 18, 19 carrying rollers engaging surfaces 31 which are substantially radial of the drum and form part of blocks 30 mounted on each side of the shoes. Each shoe is adapted to anchor at one end against the cylinder by means of a flange 20 on a piston. In a modification the shoes anchor by surfaces radial of the drum on studs on the brake back plate. In Fig. 4 the cylinders 16 are V-shaped so that the end surfaces 20 of the pistons are radial to the drum. U-shaped centring springs embrace two fixed studs 45, 46 and a stud 47 on the shoe. The surfaces 31 may be curved to a radius equal to twice the radius of the brake drum. Cams or toggles may be used to operate the brake shoes. Specification 411,616 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
